MLC SCHOOL PRIVATE MUSIC TUITION 2020

FULL YEAR COMMITMENT

Students electing to have private music lessons are committing to the full year of tuition (ie up until the end of Term 4). Should a student withdraw from private music lessons, the balance of the year’s tuition fees must be paid. 

Changes to a student’s tuition must be approved in advance by the Director of Music.

ORGANISATION OF LESSONS 

Private music tuition is given on the basis of 32 lessons per year, or the equivalent of eight lessons per term.

Cancellation of Lessons

If students or teachers need to cancel or change a lesson time, 48 hours notice must be given. This includes lessons that need to be changed due to exams/tests, excursions/incursions, sports carnivals, etc., as well as music teachers having to change due to other extraordinary professional commitments. 

Rotation of Lessons 

It is MLC School policy that lessons must be rotated during the school day so students minimise their time away from any one subject. Girls in Year 11 and Year 12 have fixed lesson times during their ‘spare’ periods and this is negotiated directly with the teacher. 

Extra lessons can be given (and are charged separately) after the 32 designated lessons have been given.

CO-CURRICULAR MUSIC ENSEMBLES MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENT 

All students having vocal tuition or learning a string, woodwind, brass or percussion instrument at MLC School are required to participate in the music centre’s co-curricular ensemble programme. The minimum basic requirement is the weekly rehearsal and associated performances with a large ensemble (choir, orchestra or band, as appropriate). Students may also audition for smaller ensembles if they wish.

Once the enrolment for lessons has been received the co-curricular ensemble form will be emailed and must be completed, signed and returned to the Music Centre Office.

INSTRUMENT HIRE

There are a limited number of instruments for hire from MLC School. These are available for a maximum of one year, and and cost $80 per term (charged to the student’s school fees). Any loss or damage of school instruments must be borne by the parents/guardians. Instrument accessories, and the replacement of them, are the responsibility of the student. Insurance of the instrument is the responsibility of the parent/guardian.
