(YEAR 2 – YEAR 12)

Registrations - Open 31 January 2018 & Close 10 February 2018

Netball is offered to interested students from Year 2 – Year 12. MLC School competes in the Eastwood Ryde Netball Association Competition.  This competition will be conducted from 7 April – 1 September 2018. Please read the following information carefully as, it will form the basis for your involvement in Netball at MLC School in 2018.

There is an absolute expectation that all players fulfill their contractual obligations during the season and that they do so with the active support of their parents.

COMPETITION DATES: Saturdays only. Competition starts 7 April 2018. Please note, games are scheduled to be played during school holidays on Saturday 14 April, 28 April, 30 June.

GAME TIMES: Game times vary from year to year, but as a general guide, 7 – 15yrs play in the morning and 16yrs + play in the middle of the day/afternoon.

VENUE:  7 – 10 years: Brush Farm, Lawson Street, Eastwood.

All others: Meadowbank Park, Adelaide Street, Meadowbank.

UNIFORM: MLC has an A-line playing dress and all girls registered for 2018 will be required to wear it. If you require to purchase a dress, the cost of the dress is approximately $80. You will need to indicate your size on the intention to play form so they can be ordered. Payment for uniforms can be made at the point of registration. Students are required to wear navy sports briefs (boyleg style), white socks and sports shoes. If the weather is cold students are to wear their PE tracksuit to sporting fixtures.

EQUIPMENT: The school will provide all equipment required for participation in netball.

TRAINING: Training days and times will be finalised early next year when the coaches have been confirmed. It is expected that students are punctual, dressed in school sports attire and have appropriate safety equipment for all training sessions. It is essential that players attend all training.

GAMES: Players are expected to attend all games and must be at the venue and court at least 30 minutes prior to the game so there is adequate time for score sheets to be completed and for players to be signed on and warmed up. If a player is for some reason unable to play due to illness or injury it is important that they come to support their team where possible.

In the event of wet weather for games a message is put on the ERNA wet weather line.  We apologise in advance for the times you may arrive to find a game cancelled.  It is not always possible to make accurate predictions about weather and ground conditions. The ERNA wet weather number is 1900 962 017.

On the rare occasions that a student is unable to attend training or a game the following procedures are to be followed:

•  If the inability to attend IS known in advance ? parent/guardian should email as early as possible the coach and netball coordinator.

If the inability to attend IS NOT known in advance – the parent/guardian of the student should SMS or phone the coach to inform them of the absence and email the netball coordinator.

Please Note

  • Failure to attend games without a timely explanation is unacceptable and can jeopardise players continued involvement in sport at MLC.

COACHES: Each team will have a coach who is responsible for the ongoing training and development of the players’ skills and knowledge of the game.

MANAGERS: Each team will require a manager for the season. Teams cannot be entered without a parent or responsible adult as team manager. If you are interested in being the team manager for your daughter’s team, please indicate this in the appropriate section when registering your daughter.

The manager’s role is to support the coach in areas such as

  • Team administration e.g. organising canteen duties
  • Management of team equipment e.g. Kit bag
  • Scoring

UMPIRING: Students both experienced and novice can nominate their interest in umpiring for the 2018 netball season. In order to begin umpiring, students must be at least 13 years old. Badged umpires are paid to umpire.

COMMUNICATION: Our main forms of communication with the players and their parents will be via email, through the sports department or team coaches and the sports update in the newsletter. Please ensure you regularly attend to these to ensure you are well informed regarding Netball 2018.

FEES: A NON-REFUNDABLE fee of not more than $350.00 is charged and includes NSW and ERNA registration, Netball NSW insurance, ERNA court levy, umpiring expenses, team equipment and coaching fees. Costs of all NSW and ERNA fees rise annually.

GRADING: All players are expected to attend grading (schedule below). Your age group is the age you turn in 2018. All players are expected to attend trials. The purpose of trials is to place students in suitable teams according to their skill level. Teams are formed based on skill level and not for transport or social reasons.
In extreme cases where a player is unable to attend, parents must email the netball coordinator either on or before the grading date. Attendance at grading or appropriate notification of the inability to attend is essential to be guaranteed a place in the most appropriate team.

If grading is called off due to wet weather or extreme heat on Monday 29 January, a message will be emailed to participants. The alternate date for Netball grading is Saturday 3 February. The time schedule will remain the same as indicated below for ALL age groups.

All players must come along dressed ready to play netball. Please ensure you have correct footwear for netball. No soft canvas shoes allowed. (School sports uniform not required).

PROOF OF AGE FOR REGISTRATIONS: As we are a club, all new players are required to submit 2 identical, full faced, colour passport photos with their name on the back AND a copy of their birth certificate or passport. These are used for registration cards and must be brought to grading in an envelope and given to the netball coordinator. Please note 7,8 & 9-year-old players do not require photos.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION: Please read this carefully BEFORE you begin.

In 2018, the process for netball registration will be different to the previous year. This is due to the Active Kids Rebate Program. From 31 January 2018, parents will be able to claim up to $100 per school child, per calendar year, as a voucher to reduce the cost of sport registration or membership fees for after-school, weekend and structured fitness or physical activity. For more information on the initiative, Click Here

In order for families to be entitled to the rebate, we have delayed the collection of the registration fee till 31 January 2018. From this date, it is imperative that you register and pay registration within the registration period to ensure your daughter is eligible to play in Round 1.

For 2018, we envisage that registration will be a 3-step process.

  1. Complete the intention to play form to ensure you are eligible to trial and be placed in a team.
  2. When the registration period opens, register your daughter on the MyNetball Website (You will be given instructions on how to do this).
  3. Pay for registration on the school’s payment page.

Of course, steps 2 and 3 may change slightly once we have more information from the government regarding the rebate. We thank you in advance for your patience during this time.

Registrations OPEN on 31 January 2018 & CLOSE 10 February 2018.
